Description

This 3 day simulation lets your students experience firsthand the conflicting interests of the 13 colonies and the events they dealt with that led to the creation of the Constitution of the United States.

This download includes a PowerPoint, note sheets, an information sheet for each colony to guide student research, and a teacher guide.

In this well-structured role-play, students represent one of the 13 colonies as delegates to the Articles of Confederation, which served as a bridge from the Revolutionary War to the Constitution we have today. After a completing a mini-research project on their colony, they must shepherd their state through a series of events like the Robert Morris Import tax, what to do with the Northwest Territory, and finally Shay’s Rebellion.

Then, at the Constitutional Convention, students will debate the merits of the Virginia and New Jersey plan before seeing if they can agree on the Grand Compromise that gave us the Constitution we still have today.

Through guided learning, self-discovery and debate your students will gain an appreciation of the forces responsible for the creation of the Constitution like never before.

This download includes a PowerPoint, note sheets, an information sheet for each colony to guide student research, and a teacher guide.
